Why Permaset Aqua Inks?
Permaset Aqua is the revolutionary 100% Solvent free water based ink from Colormaker - the leading maker of fabric printing ink in Australia since its inception 40-45 years ago. Permaset Aqua passes Oeko Tex class I textile levels for Formaldehyde yet still provides exceptional color yield, and produces a print that is at once extraordinarily strong and incredibly soft.
What can I print on using Permaset Aqua Inks?
Permaset Aqua inks can achieve great results on: Cotton, Polyester, Silk and most synthetic fabrics - all without the need of any additives or plasticizers.
What is the difference between Permaset Aqua Standard Color and Super Cover inks?
- The Permaset Aqua Standard Color Range is a 100% solvent free, water based ink, and is designed with the softest handle in mind. The Permaset Aqua Standard Color Range is appropriate for printing on light colored fabrics.
- The Permaset Aqua Super Cover Range maintains Permaset strict eco standards, and is designed to maintain unsurpassed opacity on darker fabrics.
A printer's perspective:
Thoughts from Whitney Teska, Permaset Printer @ Orchard Street Press.
I'd say Permaset Aqua Standard is more of a traditional waterbased ink, while the Supercover is a heavier water-based ink that has many of the advantages of a plastisol without the solvents and nasty chemicals.
The first difference you notice out of the bucket is the consistency.

Which White Should I use?
- TRANSPARENT WHITE has minimum opacity and is designed for use as a blending white to achieve Pastel colors for printing on light fabrics. Lower levels of Titanium dioxide maintain softest handle of the print.
- STANDARD WHITE is formulated with higher levels of titanium dioxide to achieve better opacity however a stiffer handle will result. Standard white is appropriate for lighter fabrics.
- SUPERCOVER WHITE is our Premium Opaque White for use on dark colored fabrics.
- FIRST DOWN WHITE is a Flash White designed for Trade printers who wish to use regular Aqua colors on darker fabrics.
How Do I Heat Cure Permaset Aqua?
There are multiple ways that a printer can service-ably cure Permaset Inks.
Examples of curing techniques:
- A conventional drying tunnel
- After air drying: A hand iron - although the print will not melt like a plastisol ink, best to iron the back of the image.
- After air drying: fold printed garment, wrap in aluminum foil and place in a warm oven (about 190 degrees farenheit).
- After air drying: place printed garment in a clothing dryer for around 30 minutes.
All methods are subject to suit local climates, fabric moisture content, etc. Best practice is to print a test piece(s), to evaluate throughout the curing process.
